The word "greeter" is derived from the English word "to greet". The greeter idea comes from New York. New York greeters have been welcoming guests from near and far since 1992 and showing them the best corners of the city - individually and personally. We call such a walk a “greet.”
Greeters can now be found in many countries around the world. In Germany, 22 cities offer greetings.
Our motto "Come as a guest, leave as a friend" expresses that we want to show our guests Nuremberg in a greet as we would show it to a friend.
That's why the greets are free! We are happy to get involved in this voluntary work. Our reward is the beautiful encounters with initially strangers... But after the 2-3 hours that a greet lasts, you have the impression that you are no longer strangers. Therefore, the group size is limited to a maximum of 6 people.
Greeters are usually people who like to travel themselves. They are open-minded and want to give something back from the beautiful things they have experienced while traveling.
We Nuremberg greeters love our city and want our guests to experience it that way too. We want to clearly communicate that we are not competition for the city's tourism offerings. We are not professional tourist guides, but rather complement the tourist offer of our city.
